During the sync process, MP3 files will automatically be transcoded, if necessary, to the WMA format that you can play on your V CAST Music phone. The original MP3 files on your PC will remain in the MP3 format. If you have MP3 files on a phone memory card, simply save them to your PC and then convert them as above.
On V CAST Music phones with Version 01.02.000 or higher software such as the Chocolate by LG, you can “sideload” unprotected MP3 files to the MY_MUSIC folder of your memory card. (To format the memory card, turn on your phone, insert the card into the phone and then remove it. Save your music to the MY_MUSIC folder.) Note: only unprotected MP3 files can be played after being sideloaded. Protected MP3 files must sync in order to be played on the phone.

If the upgrade will not result in loss of any MP3 songs stored on my memory card or computer, will the upgrade have any impact on my ability to listen to those songs on my LG VX8100 or Samsung SCH-a950 which did not have V CAST Music installed?
The native MP3 player on your phone will be replaced with the V CAST Music application if you upgrade. This means that you will not be able to listen to MP3 songs using the phone after an upgrade unless the songs are converted to Windows Media Audio (WMA) formatted files that can be played using the V CAST Music application. MP3 songs will automatically be converted by Music Essentials Manager or Windows Media Player 10 (or higher) to WMA format when syncing them from your computer to your V CAST Music phone.
Songs must be transferred ("synced") using a compatible USB cable and software compatible with your V CAST Music phone.
Note: compatible USB cables and software are available from Verizon Wireless and can be purchased as part of the Music Essentials Kit.
- Open Windows Media Player 10. Windows Media Player 10 is only supported on the Windows XP operating system.
- Connect the USB cable to your computer and phone.
Note: Please install the phone's USB drivers before connecting the USB cable to your computer.

- When you have completed building your sync list, select Start sync in Windows Media Player 10.
Note: Your V CAST Music phone plays songs only in the WMA format. If your sync list includes songs in other formats, such as MP3 or WAV, Windows Media Player 10 automatically converts the copy to be transferred to your phone to WMA format during sync. The file on your computer will remain in its original format.
- When the sync is complete, press END on your phone's keypad and disconnect the phone from the USB cable.
